If your local polling station had a runway, windbreakers and rubber boots would be the fashion hit of election day.

Rain, snow and wind are in store for much of the province today. Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for Winnipeg and parts of Southern Manitoba as voters head to the polls today to cast ballots in municipal elections.

A powerful storm in Northwestern Ontario is moving north-northeastward dumping rain and blowing things around — winds are gusting up to 90 km/h in the Red River Valley, with some open areas subjected to blasts of up to 110 km/h.

Between 30 and 60 millimetres of rain has fallen so far and more is expected today. In Winnipeg between five and 10 millimetres are expected to make the puddles on the ground even larger, with winds gusting between 70 and 90 km/h. The temperature is predicted to fall to 2 C this afternoon.

West of the city, the precipitation is a mixture of rain, snow and ice pellets.

Up to 10 centimetres of snow have fallen near the Saskatchewan border and areas in and around Brandon can expect between two and four centimetres of snow with northwest winds gusting up to 70 km/h before diminishing to 30 km/h this afternoon when the temperature should fall to about -2 C.
