St. Vital’s Breanne Meakin and Stonewall’s Sam Good are the 2011 Manitoba junior women’s and junior men’s curling champions.

Meakin, supported by third Briane Meilleur, second Erica Sigurdson and lead Krysten Karwacki, defeated Ste. Anne’s Alyssa Vandepoele 6-4 in the provincial final at Victoria Curling Club Monday afternoon to capture what is the fourth provincial junior women’s title in five years for Meakin.

“I’m just so happy and proud and excited to represent Manitoba again,” said Meakin.

Meanwhile, Good scored one with the hammer in an extra end to defeat Pembina’s Daniel Birchard 4-3 in the junior men’s provincial final at Gimli Curling Club Monday afternoon. It is the second junior men’s title for Good and second Taylor McIntyre in three years. The foursome was rounded out by third Riley Smith and lead Dillon Bednarek.

Good and Meakin will now represent Manitoba at the Canadian Juniors in Calgary, Jan. 29-Feb. 5.
