WINNIPEG – Another day, another transaction for a Winnipeg Blue Bomber squad getting younger by the minute.
Veteran offensive lineman Ryan Donnelly announced Tuesday he is retiring from the game after a nine- year CFL career, the last three spent in Winnipeg.
“I’ve enjoyed my time in the Canadian Football League and I’m sad to be saying goodbye,” said Donnelly in a statement. “I’ve had a great career full of many memories that I’ll never forget.”
A gritty, unsung battler, Donnelly missed all of last season due to injury. He joined the club in 2008 and made 12 starts at both centre and guard in ’08-09.
Donnelly was originally drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the fourth round (28th overall) of the 2001 CFL Canadian Draft and spent six years with them playing all three positions on their offensive line.
The Bombers also announced Tuesday they have eclipsed the 17,500 mark in season-ticket sales.
