A capsule look at the six players drafted Sunday by the Blue Bombers in the 2011 CFL Canadian Draft:
Henoc Muamba
Selected: 1st overall
Position: linebacker
School: St. Francis-Xavier
Ht: 6-0; WT: 230
Born: Feb. 23, 1989, Kinshasa, Congo
Credentials: Presidents’ Trophy winner in 2010 as the top defensive player (also the AUS nominee in 2008); Had 63.5 tackles in eight league games, 11 tackles for losses and 3.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery; named all-Canadian for a third straight season, including first team honours the last two years.
Carl Volny
Selected: 32nd overall
Position: running back
School: Central Michigan
Ht: 5-10; WT: 195
Born: Dec. 25, 1987, Miramar, Fla.
Credentials: Started five games last year, rushing for 402 yards on 81 carries and picking up five touchdowns… Named Central Michigan’s Offensive Player of the Year.
Jade Etienne
Selected: 4th overall
Position: receiver
School: University of Saskatchewan
Ht: 6-3; WT: 184
Born: Oct. 11, 1989, Regina, Sask.
Credentials: A CIS all-Canadian last year after pulling in 28 receptions for 721 yards and six TDs in just seven games… Came to the Huskies as a kicker… Caught two passes in his first year, broke three bones in his back two years ago but has fully recovered.
Liam Mahoney
Selected: 41st overall
Position: receiver
School: Concordia University
Ht: 6-1; WT: 207.
Born: Dec. 13, 1987, Lachine, Que.
Credentials: Was the CIS Rookie of the Year in 2007 as a quarterback, switched to receiver after his first two years… Pulled in 94 passes for 1,208 yards and 10 TDs in the last two seasons and was a second-team CIS all-Canadian in 2010.
Brendan Dunn
Selected: 17th overall
Position: offensive line
School: University of Western Ontario
Ht: 6-7; WT: 280.
Born: Aug. 21, 1988, Burlington, Ont.
Credentials: Considered the most athletic offensive lineman at the CFL E-camp in Toronto this spring… Part of an O-line that helped the Mustangs lead the CIS in rushing.
Paul Swiston
Selected: 24th overall
Position: offensive line
School: University of Calgary
Ht: 6-9; WT: 342.
Born: May 26, 1989, Calgary
Credentials: Canada West Lineman of the Year; Canada West all-star; CIS second-team all-star.
