If they didn’t already, Andrew Ladd and Blake Wheeler now know they are wanted by the Winnipeg Jets’ new management team.

Anthony Stewart, not so much.

The agents for Ladd and Wheeler have confirmed the Jets have made qualifying offers to the two players, both of whom are restricted free agents. The deadline for those offers was today, meaning any player – like Stewart, apparently – who did not receive one will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

Stewart, tweeted the letters ‘U.F.A’ on his Twitter account meaning he’ll be looking for a new hockey address beginning this weekend.

It’s no secret Jets’ management wants to retain Ladd, the captain and leading scorer of the Atlanta Thrashers last year. He has already been in Winnipeg to visit with the team’s hockey department and scout out locales to live and met with GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and assistant GM Craig Heisinger on Saturday in St. Paul, Minn. after the NHL entry draft.

Wheeler, a 24-year-old right winger, scored 18 goals and added 26 assists last year with both Boston and Atlanta after being traded.

The other Jets restricted free agent expected to receive a qualifying offer is defenceman Zach Bogosian.
