Fear not, Winnipeg Jets fans — the hockey club did make a qualifying offer to restricted free-agent defenceman Zach Bogosian prior to Monday afternoon’s deadline.
An NHL source confirmed the news to the Free Press this morning that Bogosian, a 20-year-old defenceman already with 199 NHL games under his belt, along with Andrew Ladd and Blake Wheeler — as previously confirmed — did receive a qualifying offer.
The qualifying offer means the Jets can now match offer sheets from rival clubs interested in Bogosian or get draft-pick compensation if he leaves.
Bogosian, a 6-3, 215-pound product of Massena, NY, was drafted third overall in the 2008 NHL entry draft by the Atlanta Thrashers and had five goals and 12 assists in 71 games last year.
The Jets also made qualifying offers to defencemen Arturs Kulda and Brett Festerling, right winger Spencer Machacek, centres Ben Maxwell and Riley Holzapfel.
