Winnipeg Free Press sportswriter Tim Campbell was honoured twice Tuesday by the Golf Journalists Association of Canada at its annual writing awards ceremony in Vancouver.
Campbell took the top award in the Newspapers-Editorial category for his Julie Inkster-inspired column which ran in the Free Press just prior to the start of the CN Canadian Women’s Open held at St. Charles. Campbell addressed how quirky and often-dumb rules decisions tarnish the enthusiasm for the game.
His other award was a second-place finish for his profile on local golf pro Derek Ingram, which ran as a Saturday special in July.
There are only two newspaper categories at the awards.
It’s the second time in three years Campbell has had a first- and second-place finish. He picked up similar accolades in 2009.
