Premier Greg Selinger committed an NDP government today to spending $60 million toward the first phase of a new skilled trades and technology centre at Red River College.

The premier promised also incentives for employers to hire more apprentices.

Red River College is hoping to build a new $176 million facility to train students in the construction trades.

Stephanie Forsyth, the college’s president, said the new facility would allow Red River to train an additional 1,000 students per year.
