Tim Brown in Bombers lineup for Banjo Bowl

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will have a new return option for the Banjo Bowl.

Head coach Paul LaPolice confirmed that import Tim Brown, a Rutgers-product, will be in the lineup when the Bombers host the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Canad Inns Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Brown, 23, will be available for both punts and kickoff returns. He hasn’t seen any game action this year. He broke a bone in his foot during a spring camp and the club has been very patient with his rehab — signalling the coaching staff is quite high on the 5-foot-7, 152-pound speedster.

“Tim is a guy who can make you miss in a phone booth,” LaPolice told reporters Friday. “He’s got acceleration (and) catches the ball real well. We’re hoping he can flip the field for us.”

By “flipping the field,” the Bombers (7-2) believe Brown can improve the starting position for the offence against the Riders (2-7) this time around. Winnipeg’s offence started (on average) at its own 30-yard line in last Sunday’s 27-7 loss in the Labour Day Classic, a sharp contrast from the Riders’ average start at its own 47-yard line.

Other changes for the Bombers for Sunday include the return of linebacker Marcellus Bowman (he missed two games with a turf toe injury) and the addition of Canadian fullback Michel-Pierre Pontbriand to the special teams group.

He should draw into the lineup thanks to the ankle injury suffered by non-import receiver Aaron Hargreaves last weekend.

The Banjo Bowl is sold out. Game time is at 3 p.m. (TSN, CJOB).
