DAUPHIN — Premier Greg Selinger made two health care pledges today while campaigning in the constituencies of Swan River and Dauphin.

He promised a new $2 million primary health care centre for Swan River that will come with a new nurse practitioner position.

In Dauphin, he announced that the town’s regional health centre would be getting a new MRI machine, saving Parkland residents long drives to Winnipeg or Brandon for the diagnostic service.

The new MRI and the facility to house it are expected to cost $4 million.

The constituencies of Dauphin and Swan River are both represented by the NDP.

Agriculture Minister Stan Struthers, who represents Dauphin, is expected to face a tougher battle from the Conservatives this time around after losing several NDP-friendly polls due to electoral boundary redistribution.

In Swan River, longtime MLA and finance minister Rosann Wowchuk is not running for re-election.
