Manitoba Liberals would establish 24-hour urgent care facilities adjacent to big hospital emergency rooms to ease the strain on ERs and streamline patient care.

Leader Jon Gerrard pledged to spend $18 million on staff in the first year of a Liberal mandate to operate the facilities, which would handle patients with non-life threatening conditions.

He made the announcement at the campaign office of Tuxedo Liberal candidate Linda Minuk.

“By ensuring access to urgent care treatment out of an emergency room setting, this will free up more care for emergency room patients,” Gerrard said.
