More than 300 people jogged, biked, in-line skated and walked in the 31st annual Terry Fox Run at Assiniboine Park this morning.
Before noon, nearly $20,000 had been raised, about 40 per cent of the day’s goal.
One of the runners who completed the five-kilometre course was Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz
Katz said he participated because he wants to be part of the eventual cure for cancer and help carry on the dream of both Fox and his mother, Betty, who passed away earlier this year.
“I was able to spend some time with her in December, and I know what this run meant to her. She put her heart and soul into it for 30 years,” he said.
There will be 38 different runs on behalf of the Terry Fox Foundation this month involving more than 5,000 participants.
Combined, it’s hoped they will raise $750,000, up $50,000 from what was brought in last year.
