Hey there, time traveller!

The National Hockey League has made it official — they are throwing a big bash here in Winnipeg to open the 2011-12 season and to celebrate the league’s return to Canada’s heartland.
As reported by the Free Press earlier, the NHL announced today it will stage the 2011 Molson Canadian NHL Face-Off hockey and entertainment festival at The Forks on October 6th, three days before the team’s home opener against the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 9th.
The party will include live musical performances, interactive hockey attractions and a live broadcast of the opening-night game between the Habs and Toronto Maple Leafs from the Air Canada Centre. The line-up of musical performers will be confirmed next week. Also included in the festivities will be a special live introduction of the 2011-12 Jets. The event will be covered by the CBC, VERSUS and NHL Network, who will be on the scene here to broadcast portions of the festivities live to fans nationwide in Canada and in the U.S.
“While all hockey fans around the world are excited for the new season, fans in Winnipeg have waited 15 years to have the NHL back,” said Brian Jennings, NHL Executive Vice President of Marketing in a statement. “The 2011 Molson Canadian NHL Face-Off will be a true festival and celebration with a great combination of hockey and entertainment for fans joining us in Winnipeg and fans tuning in across North America.”
Added Mark Chipman, the Jets chairman and governor: “We are honoured the National Hockey League has chosen Winnipeg and the Jets to host the season-opening event for the NHL year. The entire province has been captivated by the return of the NHL to Winnipeg and we are certain the excitement and support of this festival will be just like everything else so far this summer – overwhelming!”
On Oct. 6th from 3 to 9 p.m., NHL fans will be able to take part in a number of festivities, all of them free, including attractions that test hockey skills, giveaways and prizes as well as food and beverage and merchandise tents, the live musical performances and the game broadcasts on giant screens. Molson Canadian Hockey House will also offer cold beer and entertainment for fans 18 years or older.
