An all-party election forum will be held tonight as a coalition of local social justice groups demands Manitoba’s political parties come up with a plan to eliminate poverty and end hunger.

An all-party election forum will be held tonight as a coalition of local social justice groups demands Manitoba’s political parties come up with a plan to eliminate poverty and end hunger.

At 7-9 p.m. at the University of Winnipeg’s Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall, Winnipeg Harvest, the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg and Make Poverty History Manitoba will hold the forum called “How can Manitoba end hunger and poverty?”.

“Manitobans want their next government to ‘Make Poverty History.’ We want all political parties to adopt a poverty-elimination plan that has targets to meet, timlines for meeting them and indicators that show progress,” Brendan Reimer, executive member of Make Poverty History Manitoba, said in a media release. “We are going to hold all parties accountable through this election campaign, at the door and at our public forum.”

At the forum, party representatives will be asked questions by people living with hunger and poverty with the answers recorded so parties can be held to account in the future.

The moderator will be CBC-TV news anchor Janet Stewart.

There will be free admission.
