WINNIPEG — Good news for the Winnipeg Jets today. Alexander Burmistrov woke up this morning with a clear head.
Burmistrov set up both goals in the team’s first win in Winnipeg, a 2-1 decision over Pittsburgh Monday night.
At 13:08 of the third period, he was checked into the boards from behind by Penguins defenceman Kris Letang. Letang will have a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety today regarding the hit.
The Pens visit the Minnesota Wild tonight.
Burmistrov said this morning the check wasn’t that bad.
“It’s OK, I feel good,” the 19-year-old, second-pro said. “I was a little bit shaky after… my head just hit the boards but it’s OK. I woke up this morning and everything’s good.”
Burmistrov said he might have been partially at fault for the way the play unfolded.
“That’s hockey,” he said. “I think he did not do this on purpose. He came to me and I turned back and he maybe wanted to hit me in the shoulder and I just turned and it happened.”
The Jets were on the ice at the MTS Centre this morning before an afternoon departure to Toronto.
They play the Maple Leafs there on Wednesday and visit the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.
