WINNIPEG – Quarterback Buck Pierce expects to be ready to go when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the East Final later this month.

“Things are on schedule and I feel a lot better….whatever the next game would have been I was preparing for that,” Pierce told reporters Monday afternoon. “If it would have came down that I would have had to play this week, then that’s what we were preparing for.”

Pierce injured his right knee in the Oct. 28 game against the Toronto Argonauts. He did not practice at all last week and was left in Winnipeg when the Bombers (10-8) lost to the Calgary Stampeders 30-24 last Saturday. There was no timetable given for his recovery when the injury occurred, but Pierce has no doubts that he’ll be under centre when the Bombers next see action Nov. 20 at Canad Inns Stadium.

“No question in my mind,” he said.

Head coach Paul LaPolice wasn’t so quick to discharge Pierce from the trainer’s room, though.

”He’ll be day-to-day and we’ll evaluate how healthy he is. He’ll be day-to-day until we see how he can move around and everything,”

LaPolice said, adding he’d like to see Pierce in practice-mode when the club resumes full workouts next week.

LaPolice expects receiver Terrence Edwards (elbow), receiver Greg Carr (bruised back), and safety Ian Logan (appendix) to all be back for the East Final. In the case of Logan, who underwent surgery last week to remove the inflamed appendix, the coach was optimistic the non-import would return to active duty.

“He’s certainly crucial (to the defence),” the coach said. “A starting Canadian who’s played very well – it’s hard to lose those guys.

Hopefully he’ll be ready to play for the East Final.”

The Bombers enjoy Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off before returning to a light workout Thursday. The coaches will give the players four days off over the weekend (Friday-Monday) before getting back to practice in preparation for either the Montreal Alouettes or the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Montreal hosts Hamilton in the East semifinal Sunday afternoon.
