Hey there, time traveller!

Local shoppers don’t have to wait for advertising flyers to arrive in their newspaper or mailbox to see what deals their area merchants are offering.

The Winnipeg Free Press now offers a digital flyer service on its website. Visitors to the site can click on the Flyertown feature and get instant access to digital flyers from a variety of local merchants, including such retail heavyweights as Rona and Sears.

If they see a product they like, they can click on that item and learn more about it, said Christian Panson, director of digital product development for the Free Press.

If they want to comparison shop, they can type in the name of a product and the service will bring up all of the flyers that have that product and highlight it so it’s easy to see.

And if they want to narrow their search to just flyers from merchants in their area Panson said all they have to do is type in their postal code and those are the only ones they’ll see.

Readers can access flyers, which are updated daily, by clicking on the Flyertown feature on the Free Press website (right sidebar), or by book marking the site directly.

Panson said more than 40 merchants are now advertising on the online shopping platform, which is owned and maintained by Canada’s Wishabi corporation.

“And there are more new ones starting all the time.”

He said there have also been more than 10,000 “clicks” on the Flyertown feature since it was added to the website on Oct. 17.

“We’re seeing lots of engagement from our readers. And as we promote it more, we expect that number to grow.’

He described the new service as a natural fit for the newspaper.

“We can now cover both the print and online flyers,” he added.
