BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Three games into his comeback, defenceman Derek Meech may be on the shelf again with an injury.
The Winnipeg native, sent to the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps last week, was shoved into the boards by a late check from Scott Howes of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in Wednesday night’s second period and had to leave the game eventually won by the IceCaps 4-3 in a shootout.
Meech said after the game, his third since returning from knee surgery in the fall, that he isn’t sure it’s the same injury from earlier this season.
He is likely to return to Winnipeg to have ihis right knee examined by the NHL team’s medical staff.
The free agent signing by the Jets last summer has played just five games all season.
