The Winnipeg Jets continue to tinker with their lineup in the search of a winning formula.

The club announced Wednesday afternoon it has acquired left-winger Eric Tangradi from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2013 NHL entry draft. Earlier in the day the Jets recalled goaltender Eddie Pasquale from St. John’s after Al Montoya suffered a lower-body injury in Tuesday’s loss to Philadelphia.

“I’m pumped,” said Tangradi in a telephone interview with the Free Press. “I’m just really excited. I don’t know what opportunity awaits me and what not, but I think it was time for a change of scenery for me. I do believe I’m an NHL player but wasn’t getting that opportunity in Pittsburgh.”

Tangradi, at 6-4, 221 pounds, gives the Jets more size up front. He has suited up for five games with the Pens this season and had 10 goals and 18 points in 34 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL. The 24-year-old Philadelphia product was a second-round pick (42nd overall) of the Anaheim Ducks in 2007.

Assets: Has great size and pretty good playmaking instincts. Can mix it up in front of the net, where he does his best work — especially on the power play. Can line up at either wing position.
Flaws: Still needs to work on his play in the defensive zone and, without the puck in general, in order to maximize his potential at the highest level. Is only an average skater.
Career Potential: Big complementary winger with some upside.
