Philadelphia — The Winnipeg Jets have dipped into their system to find a replacement for Zach Redmond.

The team announced today they have recalled defenceman Julian Melchiori from the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League.

Redmond, who is recovering from surgery on his leg to repair the femoral artery that was cut by a teammate’s skate, will be out indefinitely.

And with IceCaps veteran Derek Meech also out, the 21-year-old Melchiori was next up.

He has played in 33 games with the IceCaps and he has picked up four assists.

The 6-4 product of Richmond Hill, Ont. Was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers the third round, 87th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
