Blue Bombers defensive tackle Bryant Turner is back in Winnipeg and doing well after a scary moment late in Thursday’s game against the Montreal Alouettes.
Turner returned to Winnipeg on Friday evening after being held back in a Montreal hospital for further observation. He was taken there for testing after experiencing apparent breathing difficulties after sacking Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo in the fourth quarter.
The Bombers issued a statement today saying Turner had suffered sprained chest ligaments which caused his breathing troubles. He received a number of tests over the next 15 hours, but all came back negative for any serious health issue.
“I would like to thank Dr. Mike MacKay and our Head Athletic Therapist Alain Couture for their care throughout the last 36 hours,” Turner said in a statement. “I also would like to thank all of my teammates, coaches and Blue Bomber fans for their thoughts and concern they have shown. I am feeling better and am really looking forward to getting back out there and building off of our defensive performance from the Thursday night.”
There is no timetable for Turner’s return. The Bombers have listed him as “questionable” for next Saturday’s away game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
