The Winnipeg Jets continue to stockpile bodies on their right flank.
The club announced today it has signed forward Matt Halischuk, who played 36 games with the Nashville Predators last season, the move coming after GM Kevin Cheveldayoff made two trades to acquire Michael Frolik from the Chicago Blackhawks and Devin Setoguchi from the Minnesota Wild. All three are right wingers.
The 25-year-old Halischuk was originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round (117th overall) in the 2007 draft and then traded to Nashville in 2010, along with a second-round draft pick for Jason Arnott. He has 25 goals and 29 assists in 157 NHL games and scored the game-winning goal for Canada at the 2008 World Junior Hockey Championships in the Czech Republic.
He is known as an adept penalty killer who can play either wing and brings a degree of grit and leadership to the Jets.
