THREE Winnipeg Jets prospects and a pair of Manitobans have been invited to Canada’s National Junior Team summer development camp.
Defenceman Josh Morrissey, drafted in the first round by the Jets last month (13th overall), along with centre Nic Petan (second round, 43rd overall) and goaltender Eric Comrie (second round, 59th overall) have been invited to the camp, set for Aug. 4-10 in Brossard, Que., and Lake Placid, N.Y.
Grandview’s Ryan Pulock and Brendan Leipsic of Winnipeg have also been invited. Leipsic was added since eligible returning forwards Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon are attending the camp in Brossard but will not accompany the team for exhibition games in Lake Placid.
Outdoor game confirmed
NEW YORK — Vancouver will become the third Canadian city to host a regular-season NHL game outdoors when the Canucks welcome the Ottawa Senators to BC Place next season in the 2014 Heritage Classic.
The 2014 game in Vancouver take place March 2 and will be the first played in a retractable-roof facility.
Oilers acquire Perron
WHEN David Perron returned to game action in December 2011 after missing 13 months with a concussion, he produced like he had never left.
And though his points dropped this past season, Perron was still an effective offensive performer for the St. Louis Blues.
Now Perron could get a chance to add even more on offence after being traded to the Edmonton Oilers for Magnus Paajarvi and a second-round pick.
Devils re-sign Zidlicky
NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Devils have re-signed defenceman Marek Zidlicky to a one-year, $3 million contract.
Now the Devils can keep their top defensive pair together. Zidlicky usually plays with captain Bryce Salvador.
Caps extend Alzner
WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals have signed defenceman Karl Alzner to a four-year deal worth US$11.2 million.
The 24-year-old Alzner, who was a restricted free agent, will count $2.8 million against the salary cap through 2016-17.
New deal for Hagelin
RANGERS forward Carl Hagelin and defenceman Justin Falk agreed to contract extensions on Wednesday, but Mats Zuccarello, who rejoined the team after playing in Russia during the lockout, did not reach a deal and filed for salary arbitration.
Hagelin, with a two-year pact worth $4.5 million and Falk, in the fold for a year at $975,000, trimmed down the money available for the Rangers under the $64.3 million salary cap to about $3.3 million.
