Amber Wiebe of Morden and Karlee Gendron of Winnipeg will carry Manitoba flags during the opening ceremonies of the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
Gendron will compete in cyclist events during this year’s competition, but she has picked up medals in other sports too. She won the bronze medal in speed skating at the 2007 Canada Winter Games and the silver medal in cycling at the 2009 Canada Summer Games. Gendron also competes as a member of the Trek Canada Mountain Bike Team.
Wiebe will compete on Manitoba’s wrestling team. She was a silver medalist at the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games and she also won gold in the 49 kg division at the 2013 Canadian Cadet and Juvenile Championships.
Olympian Janine Hanson will work with Team Manitoba as the honourary captain. Hanson won two bronze medals in rowing at the 2001 Canada Summer Games. She competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics finishing eighth in the women’s quad sculls and brought home a silver medal for Canada at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Hanson will help prepare and motivate the members of Team Manitoba by sharing her Games and Olympic sport experiences.
