The Blue Bombers will start new kicker Sandro DeAngelis against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this Friday, head coach Tim Burke confirmed.

DeAngelis, a three-time CFL all-star whose career hit the skids in the last few seasons, will replace struggling Bombers booter Justin Palardy.

“If Sandro gives us just a little bit more, then it’s the right decision,” Burke said. “It’s a business, and we’re trying to get better.”

Burke also said he thought quarterback Max Hall looked more settled at today’s practice as he gets the timing down with the Bombers’ top receivers.

The coach also confirmed the Bombers had reached out to defensive end Jason Vega, who played two seasons with the Bombers before heading to the NFL. Vega was cut by the New England Patriots on Tuesday.

No guarantee yet that Vega will come back to the CFL, but if he does Winnipeg would be a likely destination, he told Bombers brass in that call.
