Dustin Byfuglien’s arrival to Jets training camp is always a major happening and this year is no different.

The all-star defenceman arrived in Winnipeg sometime over the weekend and reported for captain’s practice this morning looking slimmer and fitter than he has in his time with the Jets.

Byfuglien was dogged with injuries and inconsistent play last season resulting in head coach Claude Noel attempting to skate him as a forward at one point. Reports came out over the summer pegging Byfuglien’s weight at 300 pounds during a late stretch of the lockout shortened season. A renewed approach to off-season fitness, however, has Byfuglien looking better conditioned and that can only be a plus for the Jets.

Today is not an official Jets workout and Byfuglien is not required to talk to the media but could decide to offer voluntary comments.
