Montoya to get start in Colorado Sunday

The Winnipeg Jets are going to turn to Al Montoya to start in goal when they meet the Colorado Avalanche in Denver on Sunday.

Jets coach Claude Noel confirmed that this afternoon after practice and before the team departed for the one-game excursion.

Pavelec knew the plan when he came off the ice today. He was asked if he’d be getting right back in the net after being pulled in Friday’s first period.

“I don’t think so, that it’s going to happen,” Pavelec said. “We’ll see.”

He had lost seven of his previous eight starts before being pulled after three goals on six shots Friday. Montoya came in to mop up and collected the win, 6-4, over Minnesota.

After getting the hook, TV cameras caught Pavelec throwing a mini-tantrum down the hallway towards the Jets dressing room. He had smashed his stick against the boards before exiting the game.

“If you don’t have that emotion, there’s something wrong with you,” Pavelec said today. “First of all, I didn’t know anybody saw me. It was just for me, sometimes enough is enough and (that) happened last night. It’s behind me.

“I don’t think it’s about showing somebody emotion. It’s the way I am and I try to stay calm but sometimes it’s enough and that’s what happened last night.”

Asked if he felt better after breaking something on Friday night, the goalie said: “No, it didn’t feel good at all. No.”

Pavelec is now 11-16-4 this season with a goals against average of 3.03 and a save percentage of .902.

The 17-18-5 Jets will be taking defenceman Mark Stuart (lower body) and Zach Bogosian (food poisoning) with them to Denver and Noel indicated today that both are possible, even likely, to play against the Avs.
