WINNIPEG — The fifth event of the PGA Tour Canada season is underway at Pine Ridge Golf Club this morning as 156 players are ready for the $150,000 Players Cup.
Thirty Canadians, including three Manitobans, are entered.
The field includes the tour’s top money-winner this season, University of Washington grad Joel Dahmen, who goes out at 8:20 a.m. this morning.
Dahmen has won two of the first four tournaments this season and is the early front-runner for “The Five,” the five automatic graduation spots to the Web.Com Tour for 2015.
Everybody kind of knows me out here now,” Dahmen said of his success early in the season. “It’s good and bad. There are more time management things I have to do, media requests I haven’t really done before like a press conference yesterday. It’s all good but new to me.
“I (his caddy) get to wear the No. 1 bib all week so even people who don’t know golf know that I’m No. 1 on the money list here. As soon as I get on that tee, there is a huge difference.
“You try to block it out, try not to think about it and play golf but it’s there in your mind for sure.”
The field will be cut to the top 60 at ties after Friday’s play. The trophy and the winner’s cheque will be awarded Sunday afternoon.
