Hey there, time traveller!

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Left-winger Evander Kane, who was knocked out of Thursday’s season-opener by an early collision with teammate Mark Scheifele, is unlikely to play again this weekend for the Winnipeg Jets.
Jets coach Paul Maurice said today after the team’s short practice at SAP Center that he had no update to give reporters on Kane.
“No I can’t,” the coach said. “But I will have a better idea by this afternoon. So we have to wait for all the tests to come back.”
About the weekend, Maurice said: “I don’t know but my expectation is no. I would not list him as day-to-day right now.”
Team spokesmen said later the club would not be making any more statements today on Kane’s condition, so the next chance for any information is likely to come at Saturday morning’s game-day skate prior to the evening contest against the San Jose Sharks.
In Kane’s absence in Thursday’s 6-2 victory in Phoenix, Maurice used a jumble of lines and linemates, but one combination he used more than once had Dustin Byfuglien moving into Kane’s spot with Scheifele and Blake Wheeler.
Byfuglien had a goal and was plus-three and Wheeler had two goals and an assist.
In Byfuglien’s place on the third line with Mathieu Perreault and Adam Lowry, it looked in practice like it will be Matt Halischuk, but the coach would not confirm that today.
Also today, winger Michael Frolik skipped practice. The coach called it a maintenance day.
Maurice also said Ondrej Pavelec will start in goal against the Sharks after winning Thursday’s game with 26 saves.
On adding Byfuglien to the Scheifele-Wheeler duo, Maurice was more than enthusiastic after today’s practice.
“So that would be one of the lines I played with all summer, that I thought there would be some … you’ve got great speed,” he said. “With Evander there, they look a certain way. You wonder how much speed does one line need.
“And Buff is a lot quicker than he looks. He’s just so big sometimes that you don’t realize how fast he’s moving down the wall. Buff really has the ability to hang onto the puck. Mark’s good at that, too, but Buff can really hang onto it. So it buys the guys a little bit more time to get into holes and to move off people and then it’s a big line. It got bigger. So I like that line a lot.”
