City council has a busy agenda for its meeting this morning.

While the uncertainty of the safety of Winnipeg’s drinking water hangs in the background, council will be asked to confirm the settlement deal between the convention centre and contractor Stuart Olson; direct CentreVenture to call for expressions of interest on the 220 Carlton St. site; and deal with Deepak Joshi, whose suspension from his post as acting CAO was extended for up to 30 days by executive policy committee.

Mayor Bowman could hear some strong objections to EPC’s call for an expression of interest on the Carlton Street property – CentreVenture has an exclusive deal with True North for the site and this new order could place the agency into legal trouble if True North feels that’s the way to go.

Time is really running out for Joshi. He was appointed interim acting CAO in October 2013 and, according to the motion on the floor of council, it was to last only until an acting CAO was put in place; that could happen this morning.

Michael Jack – the former city solicitor who was promoted in February to acting chief operating officer – was endorsed by EPC last week to become acting CAO after Joshi was suspended. Council will also make that temporary appointment official today.
