Five imports made the cut out of the Bombers’ Florida mini-camp, including one familiar face from around Investors Group Field.

Today the Bombers announced they had inked receivers Lavon Downs and Jhomo Gordon, linebackers C.J. Wilson and Kenny Tate and running back Carlos Anderson. The club also formally announced it had released Winnipeg Rifles alumnus Kurt Goodrich, who had previously announced he had decided to end his football career.

Tate is no stranger to the blue and gold. Last year, the 6-4, 220 lb. LB attended training camp with the Bombers, before the team released him in mid-June. Before that, he’d enjoyed a stand-out five-year career at Maryland, where he moved around the defence and a strong junior season. That year, he put up 100 tackles, 3.5 sacks and three picks. In 2011, he started off with 35 tackles and two picks in four games, before being sidelined with injury, and returned the next year.

The other new LB, Wilson, is a 6-2, 205 lb. athlete who played four years at Western Michigan University, starting 45 of his 49 total games. He put up 245 tackles and nine picks over that span.

Downs started 10 games as a senior at Delta State in 2012, snagging 44 passes for 550 yards and four touchdowns. Gordon wrapped his college career at Bethune Cookman in 2014, where he was the team’s leading receiver. In total, the 6-1 receiver started 23 games between 2011 and 2014, and notched a total of 63 catches for 905 yards and seven touchdowns.

Finally, running back Anderson played four seasons at Northern Iowa, and was a first-team All MVFC in 2010. In 44 games, including 38 starts, he put up 2,345 rushing yards and seven majors.
