The Winnipeg Jets must have like what they saw in Ben Chiarot, re-signing the physical defenceman to a two-year, one-way deal Tuesday worth an annual average value of $850,000.

Chiarot, who was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1, played 40 games with the Jets this season, scoring twice and adding six helpers to go along with 22 penalty minutes.

Chiarot also played 24 games with the team’s AHL affiliate in St. John’s, adding four goals and five assists.

The 6’3″ rookie missed 16 games due to a broken hand suffered in a fight.

Chiarot was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round, 120th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
