Armed with a mittful of player cards, Kade Bonneteau scootched up to the front of the autophraph line just as centre Mark Scheifele was making his way slowly through the crush of fans.

“Is he your favourite?” someone in the crowd asked Bonneteau.

“No, Wheels is,” said the 11-year-old over his shoulder.

Just then, Bonneteau’s friend Carson Dyck spotted left-winger Adam Lowry working his way down the autograph line, signing caps, pennants and jerseys. The duo then loudly lamented the fact that they didn’t have Lowry’s card.

The friends were among hundreds of people already lined up Saturday morning for free food, for autographs and to watch a training camp session at the second annual free Fan Fest day at the MTS Iceplex. It’s expected thousands will attend the event before it wraps up at 2 p.m. Fans can watch live interviews with senior Jets coaches, management and players, play ball hockey and enjoy the fair-like atmosphere.

A morning practice was jammed with spectators and a scrimmage slated to start at noon is likely to be crowded as well.
