Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 29/09/2015 (3736 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
Injured Winnipeg Blue Bombers QB Robert Marve announced in a statement Tuesday morning that he is retiring from football.
The Bombers released the following statement on Marve’s behalf:
“After consulting with my doctors, and contemplating my future, and life after football, I have made the decision to retire from this great game… I would like to thank the great fans of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and this organization, who have supported me through this process. I’ll deeply miss the on field competitiveness, but this is the right decision for me and my long term health.”
Marve was a former standout high school player in Florida but he has battled a long series of knee injuries dating back to his college career.
He started two games for the Bombers in 2015, completing 34 of 55 passes for 346 yards, 1 TD and 4 INTs.
He reinjured his knee during a game against Calgary on Aug. 29 and has been on the Bombers six-game injured list ever since.
He was not expected to play again this season even before Tuesday’s retirement announcement. He was due to become a free agent at the end of this season and Winnipeg was not expected to re-sign him.
