Hey there, time traveller!

In a season in which not much has gone right, Khalil Bass has been a pleasant exception in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers locker room in 2015.
The Bombers linebacker is fifth in the CFL in tackles this season and will surprise no one if he’s named Winnipeg’s nominee as rookie of the year when those nominations are announced on Thursday.
With 93 tackles this season, Bass has a chance in his club’s final regular season game — this Friday in Toronto against the Argos — to eclipse the century mark in tackles, an elusive plateau considered one of the gold standards for defensive players in the CFL.
It’s just a number, but it’d be a very special one to achieve for a player who had to try out for the Bombers three times before he finally cracked the roster this year. “It’s showing people what they’ve been missing out on and playing with a chip on my shoulder, which is how it’s been all my life,” Bass said this afternoon following a rainy practice at Investors Group Field.
“I’m going to try to get those last seven and finish up strong.”
Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea said Bass’s durability — he’s played in 16 of Winnipeg’s 17 games this year — has had a lot to do with his success. “He’s got a nose for the ball and he’s got passion… and he’s stayed healthy,” said O’Shea. “He’s had bumps and bruises and nicks but always gone back out there to play.”
Yardstick: Placekicker Sergio Castillo has also been handling punting duties in practice this week and is expected to do double duty in Toronto as the Bombers begin to look past Lirim Hajrullahu and attempt to determine if Castillo could be an option to handle both jobs next season.
