Chris Thorburn’s short-handed goal midway through the third period lifted the Jets to a 3-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes at the MTS Centre Saturday night.

Thorburn found himself all alone in front of the net and with a few quick moves of the stick he was able to back-hand a shot past Coyotes goalie Anders Lindback for his third goal of the season.
Mark Scheifele and Dustin Byfuglien also scored for the Jets while Shane Doan and Connor Murphy made good for the Coyotes.

Scheifele opened the scoring at the 6:50 mark of the period, stealing the puck from the corner before walking out in front and beating Lindback with a wrist-shot glove-side.
Arizona evened the score midway through the frame with the first of two power-play goals in the opening period. Shane Doan, the last player from the Jets 1.0 to still play for the Coyotes, tipped a Mikkel Boedker shot from the point just enough to fool Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec. Connor Murphy scored the other to give Arizona a 2-1 lead with his first goal of the season.
Dustin Byfuglien scored the only goal in the second period to even the score at 2-2. The Jets defenceman worked a give-and-go with Andrew Copp before snapping home a quick shot.
Ondrej Pavelec finished with 20 saves through two periods but was replaced by Michael Hutchinson in the third, likely from the effects of a collision with Doan in the second frame which left him reeling in pain on the ice for a few moments.
With the win, the Jets improve to 10-9-2 on the year and are a perfect 2-0 on their current three-game home stand. The Coyotes fall to 10-9-1 with the loss, wrapping up their four-game road trip with a record of 1-3.
