Despite Winnipeg being the final stop on a gruelling seven-game road trip, the Colorado Avalanche proved they still had some left in the tank, enough to squeeze out a 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets at the MTS Centre Monday night.

Cody McLeod broke a 1-1 tie at the 6:45 mark of the third period in what proved to be the game-winning goal. Zach Redmond, a former Winnipeg Jet who signed with Colorado prior to the 2014-15 season, drove the puck to the net before letting off a shot that clipped the skate of McLeod and across the line for his fifth goal of the season.

Matt Duchene added another goal at the 16:09 mark of the third period and Blake Comeau iced it with an empty-netter with 1:10 left on the clock.

The Jets opened the scoring with a goal from defenceman Toby Enstrom in the first while the Avalanche answered back in the second with a marker from forward Carl Soderberg.

Enstrom whistled a shot through traffic at the 13:40 mark of the first period that clipped something just enough on its way through to beat Avs goalie Semyon Varlamov. Blake Wheeler and Andrew Ladd were each credited with an assist on what is Enstrom’s first goal of the season.

Soderberg notched his third of the year late in the second after driving to the net. He was unable to control the puck on his way in but the skate of Tyler Myers finished the job as it deflected off his blade and behind Hutchinson.

The Jets fall to 10-10-2 with the loss and finish their three-game home stand 2-1. The win improves the Avalanche to 8-12-1 this season and snaps a three-game losing streak.
