Veteran defensive tackle Zach Anderson is the first casualty of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers recent free-agent splurge.

The Bombers announced Wednesday that Anderson had been released, just over a week after they added two players at the same position: import Euclid Cummings, who had eight sacks for the Toronto Argonauts last year and veteran Canadian Keith Shologan, who set a career high with seven sacks last year with the Ottawa RedBlacks.

Anderson spent three years in Winnipeg and last year, coming off major knee surgery, teamed with Bryant Turner, Jr. in the middle of the defensive line.

“Zach put everything on the line every week he stepped on the field,” said Bombers GM Kyle Walters in a statement. “We sincerely thank him for everything he has done for this organization, both on and off the football field.”

The club also announced the signing of import offensive lineman Jermarcus Hardrick (6-6, 320, Nebraska) who started eight games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders last year and had 10 starts with the B.C. Lions in 2014.
