Mark Scheifle’s work over the last week hasn’t gone unnoticed by the National Hockey League.

The league announced today that the Winnipeg Jets centre has been named Second Star of the Week ending March 6.

Stepping in to the Jets’ No. 1 centre slot because of Bryan Little’s season-ending injury,  Scheifele had seven points (six goals, one assist) in four games this past week, including his first career NHL hat-trick Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens. Scheifele had one assist against Florida last Tuesday, followed by back-to-back multi-goal games — scoring twice against the New York Islanders on Thursday and then three times against the Habs.

He rounded out the week with the Jets’ lone goal against Edmonton on Sunday.

The 22-year-old from Kitchener, Ont., now has 41 points (21G, 20A) in 54 games this season, posting career highs in goals and game-winning goals, with three. He is on a four-game point streak as the Jets play host to the Nashville Predators Tuesday to complete a five-game homestand.
