A couple of blown assignments and whiffed chances by the Winnipeg Jets were critical in another loss at MTS Centre tonight.

The Jets fell 4-2 to the Nashville Predators in downtown Winnipeg, dropping their overall record fo 27-35-5.

Critical in the defeat were two defensive breakdowns in the final minute of the first period. The Jets were in complete control of the opening frame, but gave up two goals — the first with 40.2 seconds left and the second with 29.9 ticks remaining — to trail the Preds 2-1

Drew Stafford openend the scoring breaking a month-long, 12-game goal less drought to give the Jets a 1-0 advantage, but the miscues late both found the back of the Jets net. Craig Smith capitalized on an odd-man chance inside the final minute and 11 seconds later Colton Sissons shot deflected off Ben Chiarot’s skate behind Ondrej Pavelec, who is making his third straight start.

Winnipeg had a glorious chance to tie the game late in the second period with a five-minute man advantage after Auston Watson drew a match penalty for a head shot on Marko Dano. But the power-play struggled to mount any kind of consistent pressure.

The Preds jumped ahead 3-1 midway through the third period on Ryan Johansen’s 11th, but the Jets inched closer with Jacob Trouba’s 6th goal with just over six minutes remaining. But Nashville regained the two-goal advantage when Craig Smith slipped behind coverage for his 17th.
