Manitoba’s Liberals want to make it easier for motorists to sign up to be organ donors.
Liberal leader Rana Bokhari promised Friday that a Liberal government would attempt to boost organ-donation rates by asking drivers whether they wish to register as donors when they renew their licenses.
Speaking at her campaign office in Osborne Village, Bokhari said the provincial organ-donor database functions properly, but could contain more donors if it became easier for motorists to opt in.

“The website, sign up for life already exists,” she said, referring to signupforlife.ca. “It’s a matter of conjoining the two to make it more efficient.”
Bokhari said she is not aware of Manitoba’s existing organ-donor rate but believed it to be the lowest in Canada. She also said she had no specific target in mind for an ideal organ-donation rate.
The cost of the change would be nil, she said.
