The Blue Bombers are expected to hire Tony Missick as the team’s new defensive backs coach for the 2016 CFL season, the Free Press has learned.

Missick, who has been with the team as a guest coach since training camp, will fill the void left by Greg Knox.

Knox spent last season as a linebackers coach with the Bombers and was named defensive backs coach this year but left before training camp to become the interim head coach at McMaster University. He’d previously worked as McMaster’s defensive co-ordinator.

It will be Missick’s first season as the Bombers’ DB coach, but his sixth in the CFL. He spent last year with the Saskatchewan Roughriders but was let go in the off-season when the Riders made wholesale changes to their staff. Before that, Missick spent four years with the Calgary Stampeders, who won the Grey Cup in 2014.
