The Winnipeg Jets started off free-agency day with some news, but not in the blockbuster category.
The Jets announced that their AHL affiliate the Manitoba Moose have signed five players for next season, defencemen Jake Baker and Tyson Wilson and forwards Brandon Denham, Jiri Fronk and Darren Kramer.
Fronk played 33 games with the Moose last season, scoring eight points. The 22-year-old also spent five games with the ECHL’s Tulsa Oilers.
Kramer, 24, played 61 games last AHL season with the Moose, recording 12 points and 138 penalty minutes as the team’s tough guy. He was in trouble with the law last week in Florida but that clearly hasn’t dissuaded the Moose/Jets from bringing him back to Winnipeg.
Denham came out of Robert Morris University at the end of last season and played the final nine games of the season with the Moose, recording a goal and four points. The six-foot-four forward from Milton, Ont., had 42 points at Robert Morris last season in 39 games.
Baker had nine games with the Moose last season and also spent 51 games with the ECHL’s Quad City Mallards.
Wilson was in three Moose games last season after playing five seasons at Robert Morris.
