The Wheat City’s Isabela Onyshko will be competing in the individual women’s artistic gymnastics balance beam event today.
The 18-year-old, who trains out of the Brandon Eagles Gymnastics Centre, nabbed the final spot in the eight-woman field with a score of 14.533 in the qualification round. Four Americans had higher scores but individual apparatus finals only allow a maximum of two athletes per country to compete, thus cementing Onyshko’s spot in the final.
She finished 18th in the individual all-around event on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Canadian women’s basketball team lost 73-60 to Spain on Sunday to finish third in Pool B with a 3-2 record.
Alba Torrens led Spain with 20 points, with Nirra Fields notching 13 for Canada, which sank just one of 11 three-point attempts.
Canada, which includes former Brandon University Bobcat coaches Steve Baur and Shawnee Harle as assistant coaches, will play France in one of four quarter-final games Tuesday.
