The Winnipeg Jets will be looking to get back in the win column — and settle the score with the Dallas Stars — when they complete a home-and-home series at the MTS Centre tonight.

Dallas (3-2-1) defeated Winnipeg (2-4-0) 3-2 on Tuesday night in Texas.

Connor Hellebuyck gets the start in net for the Jets, continuing a trend of alternating goalies through the first seven games of the season. Head coach Paul Maurice said Thursday he’s waiting for one of his netminders to get on a roll and force his hand.

Rookie Kyle Connor returns to the lineup after spending last game in the press box. He takes the spot of Drew Stafford, who suffered an upper-body injury against the Stars and is expected to miss at least a few more days.

Connor will skate on a line with Mathieu Perreault and Nikolaj Ehlers.

“For me I’m just looking to play my game out there, play with lots of speed,” Connor said following the morning skate. Although it wasn’t his first choice, Connor said sitting out a game as a healthy scratch gave him a new perspective which could help him in the long run.

Winnipeg is now in a busy part of their schedule. They’ll fly to Denver immediately after tonight’s game and play the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night. The Jets will return to the city on Saturday, then face the Buffalo Sabres at home Sunday afternoon.

“It’s important to try and get as many points as you can as soon as possible,” Jets captain Blake Wheeler said Thursday morning. He called the game in Dallas perhaps their strongest effort of the season and hopes the payoff comes sooner than later.

“I thought we were pretty good for the majority of that game. Unfortunately there’s gonna be nights like that where you bring a lot to the table, play a really solid game and end up losing. That’s part of this league. There’s gonna be nights where we play a whole lot worse than that and end up winning. So that’s just part of the learning experience,” he said.
