SAN JOSE — Michael Hutchinson will get his second consecutive start in net when the Winnipeg Jets face the San Jose Sharks here this afternoon (3 p.m., TSN 3, TSN 1290).

Jets head coach Paul Maurice said here Monday that he will go with the same lineup against the Sharks that was on the ice Saturday night in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

“It was just a real good Saturday-night hockey game. We’d like to see that played every night,” said Maurice, whose club is playing a rare weekday matinee because today is Martin Luther King Day, a statutory holiday in the United States.

MARK J. TERRILL / THE ASSOCIATED PRESS FILES Winnipeg Jets goalie Michael Hutchinson "played a good, solid game" on Saturday, says Jets coach Paul Maurice.

And Hutchinson? “He played a good, solid game for us. He gave us a chance on the road in back to back (games) which is what you’re hoping for. So he deserves to go back in.”

The single point the Jets picked up in L.A. was the only one they’ve earned in the last three games.

Maurice was asked if his team has noticed the absence of rookie Patrik Laine — who is recovering from a concussion sustained Jan. 7 — through the recent struggles.

“Sure. And some of it may not even be real. And what I mean by that is when the puck’s on Patty’s stick, you think there’s a chance of it going in every time he shoots it. And no disrespect to any player, and it’s true of any team — you don’t have that same feel on the bench necessarily when someone else is shooting the puck.

“He’s just got such a dangerous shot… so yeah you miss him. That’s as pretty close to a top-end game-breaker as there is. If he gets enough shots, he’s going to score.”

Winnipeg will charter home immediately following the game and will be in action again Wednesday evening at MTS Centre against the Arizona Coyotes, who beat the Jets 4-3 in Glendale on Friday night.
