Gimli has been selected to host the 2019 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
The event will be played January 23-27, 2019 in the Gimli Recreation Centre.
Jennifer Jones and her team from the St. Vital Curling Club went on to capture the world championship after winning the Scotties the last time it was held in Gimli in 2008.
“We are delighted to be going back to Gimli,” CurlManitoba Executive Director Craig Baker said in a statement. “We know the curling fans in the Interlake region are eager to have championship curling return to Gimli and we are confident this event will be another great success.”
The 2019 championship will be the beginning of the next Olympic quadrennial and will be an important starting point for Manitoba teams looking ahead to the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.
The first team to qualify for the 2019 Scotties in Gimli will be identified a year earlier when the 2018 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts is played in Killarney.
