The much improved Vancouver Canucks will serve as a dangerous opponent when they visit the Winnipeg Jets tonight at Bell MTS Place.
“They’ve got depth and they’re getting contributions all throughout their lineup,” said Jets centre Adam Lowry following the club’s Tuesday morning skate. “They have a pretty mobile back end that likes to jump up into the rush.
“They have different ways to hurt you so it’s going to be important that we’re ready to go and get off to a good start and try to play with a lead. I think last game after 15 minutes of the first period we did a pretty good job of not giving up a whole lot and generating some chances.”
The Canucks, 25-17-4 and tied for third in the Pacific Division, are coming off a 4-1 win over the Wild in Minnesota Sunday. The Jets, meanwhile, are fourth in the Central at 24-18-4 after Sunday’s 1-0 loss to the visiting Nashville Predators. The Jets have just four wins in their past 13 games. That includes six straight defeats at Bell MTS Place.
“I kinda like the way Vancouver’s played over the years but every time we’ve played them they’ve had six or seven guys out of the lineup,” said Winnipeg head coach Paul Maurice. “Over the last couple of years they’ve had a huge run of injuries that have truly affected the team.”
Winnipeg defenceman Tucker Poolman (lower body) will not play after leaving Sunday’s game with an injury. Meanwhile, rookie Jets forward Jansen Harkins will draw back into the lineup, replacing Gabriel Bourque.
