The Winnipeg Goldeyes improved to 6-5 on the season with a 4-3 win over the St. Paul Saints at Sioux Falls Stadium on Wednesday night. With the loss, the Saints fell to 5-6.
Outfielder Darnell Sweeney led the way for the Fish with two hits and two RBIs. Infielder Kevin Lachance walked twice and scored two runs.
Closer Victor Capellan walked a batter in the ninth but held on for his first save of the season. The veteran pitcher is now five saves away from the all-time American Association saves record.
Frank Duncan (2-1) was the winning pitcher as he gave up one run on four hits and struck out five batters in six innings of work. The Saints outhit the Goldeyes 7-6 in a losing effort.
The rubber match of the three-game series goes down tonight beginning at 7:05 p.m.
