Kaitlyn Lawes of Fort Rouge and St. Vital’s Jennifer Jones will go head-to-head later today in an epic game at the provincial women’s curling championship.
The winner of that 4 p.m. showdown between unbeaten teams in the championship draw will go directly to Sunday’s final, set for 2 p.m. at the East St. Paul Arena.
Lawes improved to 7-0 with a 9-1 win over Lisa McLeod of Portage la Prairie in the morning draw and will face the 7-0 Jones team, a 9-7 winner over Assiniboine Memorial’s Beth Peterson.

Jennifer Jones throws a rock at the Scotties Tournament on Jan. 27.
Peterson fell to 5-2 and now has a crucial 4 p.m. game against Assiniboine Memorial’s Abby Ackland, who improved to 4-3 with a 9-1 triumph over Assiniboine Memorial’s Darcy Robertson.
If Ackland beats Peterson, it would force a tiebreaker game between Ackland and Peterson for third place and final playoff spot.
The loser of the Lawes-Jones match-up will face the third-place finisher in semifinal action Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
McLeod (3-4) and Robertson (2-5) were eliminated from playoff contention.
